There’s a lot to think about when it comes to owning, renting or renovating a house. Especially if you require specialist design features. My Accessible Home aims to make that process a little easier for people with a disability.
Pioneered by Dr Courtney Wright (The Hopkins Centre, Menzies Health Institute Queensland, Griffith University) this joint project by Youngcare and Griffith University turned research into reality, with a powerful online tool to help people with disabilities build their own Dream Home report.
We worked closely with Dr Wright and Youngcare to create this website, leading users through an online quiz to generate a Dream Home report to help families, carers, builders and real estate agents understand the unique needs of each individual.
Starting with the original Phd material Winning Media helped map the information architecture and user experience journey. We also designed the My Accessible Home brand and website interface to create a fun, easy-to-use experience with a personalised feel. The quiz not only helps users customise their preferences but also educates about details to look out for when planning your home.
Built to a AA accessibility standard, the site includes features for people with a diverse range of needs, helping to empower people with a disability to build a plan that communicates what’s important to them.
In the future, we hope that My Accessible Home can help governments, infrastructure planners, builders, educators and charities to make better decisions about future projects which take into account the real-world concerns/opinions of people with disabilities.
